AGRICULTURE SECTOR POTENTIALS

 

Diversity of medicinal plants is the result of different climatic zones of Fars province; then, considering the province potentials, cultivation of medicinal plants seems possible.

INDUSTRY SECTOR

 

  • Establishment of 4 600 industrial units across the Fars; 1 052 units belng to the agricultural complementary and processing industries and also food and beverage industries (22,7%).

  • Being the center of meat and dairy producys.

  • Electrical and electronics industries as the result of installation of Iranian Telecommunication Manufacturing Co., Electronics Industries (Sairan), Nirou Trans Co. Together with other electric companies and professional experts.

  • Licorice powder extract production not only is among the main exports, but also reaches 70% participation in the country production.

  • Establishment of pickles ans salts production units that reach one-fifth of the country productions.

INDUSTRIAL INFRASTRUCTURES

 

Shiraz Special Economic Zone covers an area of 1 000 hectares which includes the export-oriented industries. Establishment of a custom in the region eliminates many problems of industrialists; besides Kazeroon, Lar and Fasa special economic zones have also been considered. Construction of 68 towns and industrial regions across the Fars is among the plans too.

Lamerd special economy Zone of Energy (Fars province), Parsian (Hormozgan province), and South Pars Energy EconomicZone can also provide the ground for establishment of great industries and supply the regional water from sea.

Considering the latest plans, establishing new industries will lead to the production of 10 million tons of steel, 1.9 million of cement, 2.3 million tons of alumina, 5 thousand MW of electricity, and 10 million tons of petrochemicals.

MINES an MINING SECTOR POTENTIALS

 

37 kinds of minerals have been discovered in the province; 20 types of them have been currently extracted including limestone, marl, gypsum, marble, porcelain stone, clay anti-fire, industrial soil, silica, quartzite, manganese, lead, zinc, chromite, barite, iron ores, copper, granite, nickel, and travertine. Fars is rich in dolomite and also ranks firts in clay anti-fire mining and second in decorative stones. Fars produces 20% of Iran decorative stones. There are also 350 stone mining companies across the Fars which extracts 80% of stones of the region.

There are 490 active mines across the region with a reserve of 2 317 million tons and mining of 43 million tons annually. Fars also ranks fourth in cement production with 8 active producing factories.

Besides, 4 steel projects are currently running; in this regard, the first phase of Pasargad Steel Company was opened in 2013 with annual production capacity of 1.5 million tones.

OIL, GAZ, and PETROCHEMICAL SECTOR POTENTIALS

 

Sarvestan and Saadat Abad Oilfields are located in Fars, cover an area of 242 square kilometer and hold 1 billion and 402 million barrels of oil.

Fars aloso gets the second place after Asalouye in oil reserves at the fields, Passage of Center and Dena ethylene-lines through the Fars, 11 petrochemical projects of which 7 projects are under operation, and Firoozabad Haligan and Sarvestan Condensate refineries establishment all will lead to the development of the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries.

In order to create synergies, three consortiums of oil, gas, and petrochemical and a consortium of elecric have been set up.

Moreover, professional experts, capable companies, prestigious univerities and research centers, special geographical location and closeness to the sea all can lead to the development of the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries too.

COMMERCE SECTORS POTENTIALS

 

Fars geographical location, types of agricultural production, livestock, petrochemicals, carpets and handicrafts, natural gas ressources, and its closeness tho the sea all lead to the Fars development of trade and commerce.

Yhe provincial exports incuding :

bitumen, urea fertilizer, carpet, gabbeh, decorative stones, tile, metal industries, dates, types of vegetables, tomato paste, canning industries, ice cream, and dairy products, and other industrial products.

With regard to business affairs, there are also private sector organizations including :

a) Shiraz Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture.

b) Non-oil export development fund.

c) Handmade carpet exporters association

d) Exporters of industrial and mineral products association

e) Fruit and vegetable exporteurs association

f) Engeineering exporters association

g) Date and dried fruit exporters association

h) Licorice exporters association

i) 15 frontier cooperatives in the southern region of Fars.

 

Shiraz international fair, covers an area of 62 hectares, is also one the main fair of the country which prepare the ground to introduce the provinc products.

TOURISM SECTOR POTENTIALS

 

There are several historical, natural, and religious attractions across the Fars. With regard to 3 000 national registered historical sites and 4 historical places registered in the world heritage list, Fars succeeded in getting the first rank in the country.

Pasagard and Persepolis, historical cities of Anshan, Meylan, Parse, Pasagard, Istakhr, Bishapour, Goor, Sarmashhad and Darabgard are the most important historical attractions of Fars.

Moreover, Tombs of Hafez and Saadi, two famous poets from Shiraz,

are located in Shiraz. Besides, the existence of 400 natural attractions indicates the necessity of investmentin these regions. There are also 117 handicraft fields and 200 thousands artisans which indicate Fars high potential in handicraft area.

MEDICAL SERVICES POTENTIALS

 

Diagnostic and therapeutic services, using the most advanced technologies, and considering the latest scientific methods by experienced practitioners all help Shiraz to be the center of healthecare servicesin the region; cochlear implant, cardiovascular bsurgery, corneal, kidney, pancreas, and liver transplant surgeries are among the most important medical servicesin Shiraz. Shiraz University of Medical Sciences is also ranked as one of Iran's top medical sckools. 

 

There are 69 hospitals across the province which, 37 of them located in Shiraz; establishment of 410 laboratories, 616 pharmacies, and 202 radiotherapy centers also indicate Farspotential to be the healtcare center of Iran.

Moreover, Shiraz can be assign as the center of medical tourism industry due to family connections and business relationships between Fars people and Arab countries of the Persian Gulf region.

HEALTH CITY ESTABLISHMENT POTENTIALS

 

Considering Shiraz potentials in healthare issues, establishment of health city was approved by cabinet then, investors can take advantages of special economic zones and tourism regions.

 

In this regard, the below centers can be established in the health city :

  • Hotels which cover an area of 331 980 square meters

  • Hospitals which conver an area of 368 800 square meters

  • Educational institutions including medical and paramedical universities and international tourism management

  • Residential spaces with the exception of hotels for teachers and students

  • Tourism, sports, recreation, and entertainment places

Non-medical places such as :

  • Specialized limited surgery clinic (such as stem cells, orthopedics, organ transplantation, gynecology, and infertility, etc …)

  • Specialized clinics (ophthalmology, dentistry, cosmetic, dermatological, neurological, psychological, etc …)

  • Specialized and diagnostic polyclinics

  • Addiction treatment centers and rehabilitation centers for older adults and physically disabled patients

  • Alternative medecine centers including : Hydrotherapy for men and women, traditional and herbal medicine movement therapy, music therapy, homeopathy, etc...

Transport sectors is of importance to the province due in its rôle in the infrastructure development and other industrial sectors.

Rail Transport :

Role of rail transport system is also noticeable due to the Fars strategic location and the amount of industrial and agricultural products across the province.

Shiraz railway toward south is under investigation which can prepare the ground for investment too. Far railway transport portion included 25% for goods transport and 1,7% for passangers in 2013; nerly 59 000 tons of goods and 294 000 passengers were also transported by railway in the same year.

Air Transport :

 

Air transoprt is also significant due to the travel time reduction for both goods and passangers transportation. Shiraz, Lar, and Lamered airports are three international airports exist in Fars province.

Fars air transport portion includes 0,1 for godss and 13,2 fot passanger. More than 2 million passenger also used Fars air transport in 2013.

According to the data obtained from universities and institutions of hogher education in 2013-2014 of the province population have been graduated.
